Matt Ferguson - President
Matt Ferguson has been the President of Viceroy Petroleum, LP since 2007. The Ferguson Family has been in the oil and gas production business since early 1980s and has been operating wells for 3 generations and almost 30+ years.
Matt has orchestrated the growth of the company from approximately 40 wells in 2 counties in Texas to over 350 wells in 12 counties in Texas and Louisiana. In addition, he architected the optimization of Viceroy’s portfolio strategy via various world class JV partnerships with the likes of EOG Resources, that contributed to over 25MM USD in returns to the Viceroy Petroleum family ownership while firmly rooted to the Ferguson family legacy and vision.
Prior to Viceroy Petroleum, Matt worked for ExxonMobil in New Orleans as a reservoir engineer and production engineer on offshore Gulf of Mexico and offshore Angola projects. Mr. Ferguson earned a Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1999 and has partially completed a Masters of Business Administration from Tulane University.

Joe Strmiska – Vice President of Land and Development
Joe Strmiska has been Vice President of Development for Viceroy Petroleum since 2012. Prior to coming on board with Viceroy, he owned Pinnacle REO Services, LLC and worked as Vice President of Structured Lending at BBVA Compass Bank.
Mr. Strmiska serves as the chief advisor to the company and takes leading roles in negotiating contracts, land, and strategic project management. He earned a Bachelor of Management with a Minor in Finance from University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in 2004.
Gamal Ahmed – Financial Controller
Gamal Ahmed has been Controller for Viceroy Petroleum since 2016. Prior to working with Viceroy, Mr. Ahmed has had 28 years of experience, including serving as Senior Accountant at Maverick Drilling and Exploration Company and other accounting roles within accounting and tax consultancies in Texas and New Jersey.
Mr. Ahmed serves as the chief tax and financial advisor for the company and takes leading roles on financial reporting, auditing, and tax returns. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from New Jersey City University in 1990.
Charles "Chip" Speice CPG, LPG – Vice President of Geology
Charles B. Speice has been Vice President of Geology for Viceroy Petroleum since 2019. Prior to coming to Viceroy, he had 25 years of experience including Senior Geologist roles at Chief Oil and Gas, Forest Oil Corp., Nippon Oil Exploration, Merit Energy, Greenhill, and Anadarko Petroleum.
Majority of his work has been leading the geologic re-development of fields along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast, but he also has experience in Permian Basin, Pennsylvania, and offshore Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Speice earned a Bachelor of Geologic Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines in 1984. Charles is a Certified Petroleum Geologist by AAPG and Licensed Professional Geologist in multiple states.
